PE Success!

On Wednesday 4th June, the Year 7 and 9 rugby teams competed in the St. Helens Schools Cup Finals at Langtree Park in what was a great evening with lots of fantastic talent on show. Unfortunately both teams were unlucky to finish the evening as runners up. Year 7 lost to St. Augustines 19-12 in a very close game until a late try sealed it for St. Augustines. Man of the match for Hope Academy was Ben Tinkley.

Year 9, who were defending champions of the trophy, lost out to our rivals at this age group St. Cuthberts, 33-18 in what proved just a bridge too far for Hope who were missing several key players due to injury. However, those players put in an amazing effort and fought all the way to the end. A performance to be proud of! Man of the match for Hope Academy was Tayler Brown.

A day later at Crusader Park in Thatto Heath, the year 8 team (containing several year 7 pupils from the final the day previous) narrowly lost out to De La Salle 38-26. After taking a narrow lead in to half time, Hope just couldn't hold to gain victory. Man of the match for Hope Academy was captain Drew Prescott (who had also played the previous day for the Year 9 team)

We also held the final Swimming Gala of the year for our feeder primary schools last Wednesday at Selwyn Jones Leisure Centre with 5 schools (St. Peters/Lyme/District/Rectory/Newton) all attending with almost 60 swimmers. This was a great afternoon with some amazing swimmers. The winners of the girls’ trophy was Lyme, District won the boys trophy and the overall winners of the event was District.
